RIDGELAND, Miss. — Holmes Community College is accepting registrations for its Fiber Optics 1-2-3 workforce training program, which will be held Aug. 3-13 on the Ridgeland Campus.
Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McGowan Building on the Ridgeland Campus.
The Fiber Optics 1-2-3 program prepares participants for high-demand careers in the fiber optics industry with training aligned to the workforce needs of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its network partners. Students will receive hands-on instruction in fiber splicing, installation and troubleshooting, developing the technical skills needed to support data centers and modern communications infrastructure.
Fiber optic technicians may work in confined spaces or at elevated heights and should be prepared for physically demanding tasks such as lifting equipment and navigating challenging work environments. The profession may also require flexible work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
Participants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. While a basic understanding of technical systems, operations or information technology is beneficial, no prior experience is required.
The registration deadline is noon on Thursday, July 30. Class size is limited, and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The cost of the class will be waived for participants who enroll through a WIN Job Center career coach.
