Holmes ranked No. 1 in Mississippi for LPN-to-RN/BSN programs

Holmes Community College has been ranked No. 1 in Mississippi for LPN-to-RN/BSN programs for 2027 by PracticalNursing.org. Visit https://www.practicalnursing.org/lpn-to-rn/mississippi#show to view the full ranking.

The recognition highlights Holmes’ commitment to providing practical nursing graduates with opportunities to continue their education and advance their nursing careers. PracticalNursing.org evaluated nursing programs across Mississippi as part of its 2027 rankings.

In addition to the No. 1 ranking, Holmes’ Practical Nursing Hybrid Program was recognized as the “Clearest Hybrid Option” in Mississippi.

“Being ranked No. 1 in Mississippi for LPNs continuing to RNs, and recognized as the “Clearest Hybrid Option,” is a tremendous achievement,” said Holmes Director of Health Science Allison DeWeese. “This recognition reflects Holmes Community College’s commitment to providing accessible, flexible, and high-quality nursing education that helps LPNs advance their careers and achieve their RN and BSN goals. Congratulations to the faculty, staff, students, and leadership of Holmes Community College on this well-deserved honor!”

Holmes’ Practical Nursing program offers three options designed to provide students with flexibility as they pursue their nursing education: full-time day, part-time evening/weekend and part-time hybrid options.

The full-time day option is offered at the Attala, Grenada and Ridgeland campuses and lasts three consecutive semesters. Attala and Ridgeland accept students each August, while Grenada begins in January.

The part-time evening/weekend option is offered at the Ridgeland Campus every other January in even-numbered years and spans six consecutive semesters. The part-time hybrid option accepts students every other fall in even-numbered years and spans five consecutive semesters.

The hybrid option combines online lectures with in-person laboratory and clinical experiences, providing students with flexibility while maintaining the hands-on learning that is essential to nursing education.

“The Practical Nursing Hybrid option at Holmes Community College provides an incredible opportunity for students to pursue their nursing education while balancing the demands of work, family and everyday life,” said Heather Rozier, Grenada Campus Practical Nursing instructor. “We recognize that many of our students are juggling multiple responsibilities, and our goal is to provide a flexible learning environment without compromising the quality and rigor of nursing education. The hybrid format allows students to take greater ownership of their learning while still benefiting from the hands-on experiences, faculty guidance and personal support that are essential to developing safe, competent and compassionate nurses.”

Rozier said the opportunity to support students throughout their educational journey is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching in the program.

“As an instructor, it is especially rewarding to watch these students overcome challenges, gain confidence and achieve goals they may have once thought were out of reach,” Rozier said. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our students, faculty and the college’s commitment to making nursing education more accessible.”

For Dr. Christi Blair, PN Division Chair and hybrid instructor, the recognition reinforces Holmes’ commitment to meeting students’ needs while maintaining the quality and hands-on experience required in nursing education.

“We are honored to have Holmes’ Practical Nursing Hybrid Program recognized as the clearest hybrid option in Mississippi,” Dr. Blair said. “This recognition reflects our commitment to providing students with a flexible, accessible and high-quality nursing education while maintaining the hands-on learning experiences that are essential to preparing exceptional nurses. We are proud to offer a program that meets students where they are and helps them achieve their goals in nursing.”

Holmes’ Practical Nursing program prepares students for careers as licensed practical nurses while providing pathways for students who want to continue their nursing education.

The combination of multiple program options and flexible course formats allows Holmes students to select a pathway that best fits their educational and personal needs. The hybrid option allows students to complete lectures online while participating in required laboratory and clinical experiences in person.

The recognition from PracticalNursing.org reflects the college’s commitment to providing accessible nursing education and creating opportunities for students to enter the nursing profession and continue advancing their education.
