Yazoo County location announces summer schedule

One of Holmes Community College's newer locations, the Yazoo County Economic Development and Educational Center in Yazoo City, is pleased to announce the schedule for summer school offerings. Located at 637 East 15th St., the Yazoo Campus will offer CPR/First Aid, a ServSafe Manager's Food Course, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) seminar, and a Computer 101 course.

The CPR/First Aid course will be offered on July 12 from 5-8 p.m. This Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches the skills necessary to perform basic first aid and CPR with the use of an automatic external defibrillator. This class is designed for industry, schools, businesses, as well as the general public. Taught by Genette Pierce, RN, the class will cost $25.

A ServSafe Manager Food Course will also be offered on July 12 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ServSafe training prepares participants for ServSafe certification and recertification as a Food Protection Manager. This workshop is for individuals seeking initial certification or recertification to work in an establishment handling food. The 8-hour course satisfies the Mississippi Department of Health Requirements: discusses food-borne illnesses, including information on specific food-borne pathogens and biological toxins, such as shellfish poisoning, contamination, and food allergens. The course, taught by Shawn Davis, will cost $150.

For those needing to earn a 10-hour OSHA card for general industry, a program will be offered July 19-20, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. The OSHA Outreach Training program costs $65, and limited seats are available. This program is one of OSHA's main methods of ensuring that workers know about workplace hazards and their rights. Participants will receive an official US Department of Labor OSHA10 Hour Card upon successful completion of your OSHA course.

The Computer 101 for Beginners course, offered free of charge, will be held on Tuesdays from July 19 – Aug. 16, from 6-8 p.m. During this workshop, participants will learn about hardware and software, files and folders, and Window components such as the media player, flash drives, different ports and cleaning up the system. Beginning with a short introduction of the history of computers, trainees will follow with learning about computers, and conclude with things to consider before e-mailing. Kanelia Williams will facilitate the course.

In addition, the Career Readiness Credential (CRC) is currently being offered at the Yazoo County Educational Center. The test is free. Please call Workforce Coordinator/WIOA Director Earline Russell-Smith at (662) 472-9105 to schedule the test.
