Career/Tech to hold hands-on roadshow event in Yazoo City
From automotive technology to welding, from surgical technology to cosmetology, Holmes Community College's Career/Technical Education (CTE) division has a variety of programs to offer the community. On Tuesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. – noon, CTE will host an interactive roadshow event at the Yazoo County Economic Development and Education Center located at 637 East 15th Street in Yazoo City. The hands-on, community event will showcase the career and technical programs offered at each of the college's locations.
Students, faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate skills that give attendees a taste of the various Holmes CTE programs. Each station will offer interactive, hands-on opportunities for those in attendance, allowing them to be a part of the showcase. In previous showcase events, the practical nursing students conducted blood pressure screenings, the Emergency Medical Science students demonstrated CPR on mannequins and welding students showed how the simulators work, to name a few. This year, the Holmes Workforce Development division will also send representatives, including those from the Electrical Lineman program.
The CTE programs provide students with career-specific skills, preparing them for immediate entry into the workforce. This showcase will give attendees a more in-depth look into what the various programs entail. Students who take the CTE route can earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, Advanced Technical Certificate, Technical Certificate or a Career Certificate; some programs also offer transfer ability to baccalaureate programs. Students can even fast track their future in as little as one year with options to complete certification in areas such as welding and surgical technology. Students can even complete the Emergency Medical Technology basic certification in one semester.
