Coleman appointed to Association of Surgical Technologists’ National Standing Committee

Travia “Shea” Coleman CST, clinical coordinator and instructor of surgical technology on the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus, was appointed a two-year term to the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Education and Professional Standards Committee on Aug. 9. In addition to representing her state as the Mississippi Association of Surgical Technologists president, Coleman has participated as an elected delegate at the Association of Surgical Technologists National Conference for the past seven years.

AST has three national standing committees. Members are appointed by the AST president and approved by the board of directors. The AST Education and Professional Standards Committee develops strategies to stabilize and increase the quality of entry-level surgical technology education. Members serve for a term of two years as vacancies occur, and can serve a total of three, two-year terms. This committee is responsible for developing strategies that enhance entry level surgical technology education and review production of educational material.
