Earline Smith, Holmes Community College’s district director for Adult Education/HSE, served as a presenter for Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s Workforce Wednesday on Aug. 18. Smith discussed the Customer Service Employment Academy and Holmes’ partnership with Goodwill and Adult Education.
“We are thankful for Smith being MPB’s Workforce Wednesday presenter,” said MPB Community Liaison Specialist Jasmine Harvey. “She did an amazing job capturing our audience while providing engaging content that highlighted the student’s workplace experience program, Smart Start and the community partnership with Holmes and Goodwill Inc. for the Customer Service Academy. I have heard nothing but positive feedback from those that attended.”
The Customer Service Employment Academy is an extensive six-week program for students enrolled in Holmes adult literacy and workforce preparation activities (including Smart Start Pathway Course and ACT WorkKeys programs). Students also have the opportunity to participate in Goodwill’s workforce training program, which included customer service and sales courses through the National Retail Foundation.
Students who complete the program receive several credentials that make them more competitive in the job market. These credentials include the Mississippi Smart Start Credential, National Career Readiness Certificate, and the Customer Service and Sales Certificate.
Along with Smith, other presenters for the Workforce Wednesday program included Vicki Burton, vice president for Goodwill Workforce Development, and Bronwyn Robertson, program specialist for workforce and employer engagement for the Mississippi Community College Board.
“Overall, the goal for August Workforce Wednesday was overachieved and the Education team is looking forward to a continuing partnership with MCCB, Goodwill Inc. and Holmes Community College and Customer Service Academy,” Harvey said.
