Each year, Holmes Community College faculty and staff members select the winners for the prestigious Hall of Fame. This year, the Hall of Fame inductees from the Grenada Campus included: Jamya Faith Benson of Grenada, Allyn-Claire Gant of Winona, Nicholas I’kevius Johnson of Duck Hill and Gavin Kolb of Holcomb.
Jamya Faith Benson
Benson, an elementary education major, is a President’s and Dean’s List scholar, an English Composition Award recipient and a Mississippi Hobnob attendee. She is active on campus as Student Government Association (SGA) president, Phi Theta Kappa honor society vice president of communications, a member of the Baptist Student Union and a student worker for the Office of Admissions. Benson was also selected as the Grenada Campus Student Body Maid during Homecoming 2021.
Off campus, she volunteers with the Grenada Soup Kitchen and serves as a math tutor, vocal coach and church pianist. Upon graduation from Holmes, she plans to attend the University of Mississippi, where she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in music.
“I look forward to teaching students and motivating them to be great leaders,” Benson said.
Allyn-Claire Gant
Gant, a marketing major, is an Ambassador as well as a member of Baptist Student Union, Phi Theta Kappa and SGA. She is also on the President’s List. Outside of Holmes, Gant serves as the recreational leader for Awanas at North Winona Baptist Church on Sunday nights.
Upon graduation, she plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Mississippi State University. When she turns 21, Gant’s plan is to start applying and interviewing to be a flight attendant so that she can travel and work at the same time.
Nicholas I’kevius Johnson
Johnson, an elementary education major, holds several accolades at Holmes including Freshman Class Favorite, Dean’s List scholar, President’s List scholar, Holmes Foundation Scholarship recipient, Fine Arts Award recipient and Mississippi Economic Council Hobnob recipient. He was also selected as a Homecoming Court escort and serves as an Ambassador; SGA secretary and treasurer; Baptist Student Union member, Campus Police student worker and Writing Center tutor.
Johnson’s community involvement includes hosting a toy drive for underprivileged children of the community, volunteering at the Grenada Campus food pantry sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, hosting a school supply drive for Winona Elementary School, organizing a kindness table during World Kindness Week and leading a Valentine’s Day fundraiser for SGA where all proceeds went to the children of St. Jude.
After Holmes, Johnson will transfer to Delta State University to earn a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in elementary education as well as administration. He has hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher and working his way up to the role of assistant principal or even head principal.
Gavin Kolb
Kolb, a wildlife management major, is a President’ List and Dean’s List scholar. He is also an active member of Phi Theta Kappa. Kolb is an Iraq veteran who serves in the Mississippi National Guard.
Upon graduation from Holmes, Kolb will attend Delta State University on a full-tuition scholarship and pursue his career goal of becoming a game warden or a wildlife biologist.
