The Holmes Community College Culinary Arts program participated in a Survivor Strong event on Thursday, March 28. The students and instructor Alexei Harrison were invited to attend by Dr. Teresa Mackey. Dr. Mackey is the vice president for compliance and institutional research at Holmes and was the 2022 Honoree for the American Cancer Society. This honor recognizes a survivor who has been an active volunteer and supporter of breast cancer research.
“Survivor Strong is a group of survivors, caregivers and supporters that find comfort and strength in navigating life after diagnosis,” Dr. Mackey said. “We look forward to our monthly fellowship activities. Chef Alexei and her students did an amazing job of educating us on some healthy food options. The food and ambiance were top notch.”
“We did a healthy party theme, which included healthy appetizers, desserts and alcohol-free cocktails for the Survivor Strong group,” Chef Harrison said.
During the event, they worked with guest Chef Sadé Meets. Meeks is a writer, food activist, Registered Dietician and natural storyteller from Jackson.
