Metro Building Services creates Foundation Scholarship for CTE students

The Holmes Community College Development Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Metro Building Services Scholarship to benefit career-technical students at Holmes Community College.

The patronage scholarship should be awarded to full-time students enrolled either in the welding or HVAC programs. The student should have and maintain a 2.0 GPA.

“Metro strives to help build the up-and-coming workforce and feels it to be a positive note to support these young people how we can,” said Travis Burrell, who is the Director of Service Operations for Metro Building Services, LLC. Metro has three locations in Bolton, Hattiesburg and Hammond, La. with plumbing, electrical, controls, welding, and sheet metal divisions.

Burrell, who resides in Goodman and has been with Metro for 27 years, has many family members who attended Holmes. His daughter is a recent graduate of the cosmetology program, and his brother got his degree in HVAC from Holmes.

“Metro wants a deserving student that plans on making a career in HVAC and has a good work ethic and a respectful GPA to receive our scholarships,” Burrell said. “Metro has multiple young employees from Holmes and Hinds HVAC courses on staff, and we plan on continuing to hire young and train them for their future in this field with an opportunity to join a family they can retire with.

The Metro Building Services Scholarship is open to gifts from persons, estates and organizations. To donate to the Metro Building Services Scholarship, please send donations to the Holmes Development Foundation, P.O. Box 527, Goodman, MS  39079.
