Officer Gary Cooper, a law enforcement officer for the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus, was recognized as one of the state’s leading law enforcement officers. He received the “Top Cop” honor from the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs. The award was presented on May 14 during the Police Memorial and Appreciation Day Luncheon presented by the Mississippi Center for Police and Sheriffs and Crime Stoppers.
Officer Cooper joined the Holmes family in the fall of 2023. He is both a retired police officer and a retired Alabama Army National Guard member. Officer Cooper was a federal police officer with the U.S. Department of Defense and he served in the U.S. Army as a combat soldier for Operation Iraq Freedom II. He is a graduate of Federal Law Academy, the Alabama Police Academy and Wallace State Community College.
“Officer Cooper has been a great addition to our Police Department,” said Holmes Police Chief Deveesha Magee. “His professionalism and dedication, matched with his uncanny ability to make you laugh is invaluable. I’m super proud and excited to have him here!”
The Top Cop program is in its 19th year of recognizing top law enforcement agents in Mississippi. Awards are given to agents representing state and metro area law enforcement agencies.
