Holmes-Ridgeland featured on WLBT for impact on EMS workforce shortage

On Dec. 3, the Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus was highlighted by WLBT for its instrumental role in addressing the critical shortage of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals across Mississippi.

The college’s EMS program provides comprehensive training that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the demanding field of emergency medical care. By offering state-of-the-art facilities, experienced instructors and hands-on learning opportunities, Holmes is producing graduates ready to meet the growing demand for EMS workers.

“We’re relatively new in this healthcare spectrum,” said Holmes EMS Director Mark Galtelli. “A lot of people don’t understand exactly what EMS is and therefore don’t see it as a career choice. They don’t realize what a large impact those individuals in those ambulances and helicopters and other places have on patients’ worst days.”

The WLBT segment showcased how Holmes is making a tangible difference in the lives of its students and the health of its communities. This recognition underscores the college’s commitment to excellence in education and its dedication to serving the public.

In addition to the Ridgeland Campus, Holmes also has EMS programs in Grenada, as well.
