Mabus Elected to Regional Executive Committee

In February, Dr. Amber Mabus, district chair of the English and Foreign Language Division, was elected as secretary of the Regional Executive Committee of the Two-Year College English Association-Southeast (TYCA-SE) at the regional conference held in Jackson, Mississippi.

TYCA-SE is one of seven regional affiliates of the Two-Year College English Association (TYCA) National, which operates under the umbrella of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). TYCA-SE is a vital professional organization dedicated to supporting and advancing the work of English educators at two-year colleges across the southeastern United States.

Each year, the TYCA-SE conference is held in a different location within the ten-state region. The TYCA-SE Regional Executive Committee (REC) is composed of elected and appointed positions eligible to members of TYCA-SE teaching at community colleges from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Elected committee members serve three-year terms and have the option to seek re-election after the end of their term.

Dr. Mabus says, “I am very honored to be elected to serve TYCA-SE on the Regional Executive Committee. Attending the TYCA-SE conference every year allows me to learn new techniques and network with colleagues throughout the southeast. At the end of each conference, I leave revitalized and eager to implement what I have learned in my classes. I am excited to serve the organization that provides such invaluable professional development and networking to English instructors in the south.”

Dr. Mabus’s election is a significant achievement and reflects both her commitment to the field of English studies and leadership within the broader academic community. Her involvement at the regional level will help elevate the perspectives and needs of faculty and students in our institution and across the Southeast.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Amber Mabus on this prestigious appointment. We look forward to the insight and impact she will bring to TYCA-SE and the future of English education at the two-year college level.
