Members of the Holmes Community College Concert Chorale participated in the 22nd annual Southern Invitation Choral Conference on the Hattiesburg campus of the University of Southern Mississippi on September 15 and 16. Dr. Drew Trautman, director of the Holmes Concert Chorale, took seven students to participate in this two-day choral clinic experience.
Students got together with over 700 other students from Mississippi and the surrounding region to hear performances and put together their own concert. Students learned an entirely new concert in approximately nine hours of rehearsal spread out over the two days and then performed it for their colleagues and Hattiesburg residents.
Students sang for clinician Dr. Bret Peppo from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA and got the opportunity to work extensively with Shawn Kirchner, a prolific choral composer and arranger, on both his own music and the work of others.
