Spurlock named Holmes CC’s Director of Bands

Jacksonville, N.C. native Cody Spurlock has joined the Holmes Community College family as the new Director of Bands on the Goodman Campus.

Spurlock, who moved to Mississippi when he was a year old, came to Holmes from Wesson Attendance Center, where he served as Director of Bands.

The high honor graduate of Hillcrest Christian School attended the University of Mississippi and received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He was the principal euphoniumist in the UM Wind Ensemble from 2015 to 2019. He also was a member of the Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, the Trombone Ensemble, and was the bass trombonist in The Collegiates Jazz Band.

He began his teaching career at Wesson Attendance Center in 2019 as assistant band director, later becoming head director in 2023. While there, he built a strong curriculum for younger students and helped elevate the marching band program which culminated in all superior ratings in his final year, a milestone not achieved in seven years. Spurlock also holds a master’s degree in music education from William Carey University.

Whether you’re a music major or simply want to continue playing, the Holmes band program offers a place to stay involved, improve your skills, and be part of something rewarding.

“I just enjoy immersing myself in music-making,” Spurlock said. “I’m excited to build that same passion with our students here at Holmes.”

He and his wife Audra, whom he married in 2021, recently welcomed their daughter Ellasyn in January 2026. At Holmes, Spurlock expressed enthusiasm about continuing his passion for music and sharing it with students as he leads the band program forward.

Students of all majors are welcome. For more information about the bands at Holmes, contact Spurlock at cspurlock@holmescc.edu, call (662) 472-9051 or visit https://holmescc.edu/academic-divisions/fine-arts/.
