RIDGELAND — The Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus Practical Nursing Program held its pinning ceremony June 24 at 10 a.m. at Olde Towne Community Church, recognizing students completing the program.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for nursing students as they transitioned from classroom and clinical training into professional practice in the healthcare field.
A total of 14 students were honored during the ceremony. Graduates included Abigail Alycee’ Berry, Coriyanna Monae Unique Benson, Brianne Monique Daughtery, Raigan Davis, Darby Dew, Alondra Leshay Hopson, Joni Horn, Michaela Adaya Skye Martin, Daneisha McGee, Courtney McIntyre, Akia Jamilia Montgomery, Alexandria Taylor, Roshunna Micheell’a Taylor and Janiah White.
The ceremony began with a processional of the graduates, followed by an invocation led by Darby Dew, the class vice president. Following the prayer, Ridgeland Campus Vice President Dr. Bronwyn Martin offered welcoming remarks to the audience. Coriyanna Benson, the class president, then offered remarks on behalf of the Practical Nursing Class of 2026.
Following Benson’s address, PN Instructor Heather Roberts presented a few special awards. First, Roshunna Taylor was presented the Citizenship Award. Next, Janiah White was announced as the class historian for having the third highest GPA in the cohort, Joni Horn was recognized as salutatorian for having the second highest GPA and Raigan Davis was honored as valedictorian for having the highest GPA. Davis was also named Practical Nursing Student of the Year.
After the awards presentation, Practical Nursing Instructor Dr. Lakesia Sutton called the students to the stage one-by-one to receive their certificates and pins. Dr. Martin presented certificates before Roberts pinned each student. Following the pinning, Raigan Davis, class secretary, led the graduates in reciting the Practical Nurse’s Pledge. Finally, Dr. Sutton concluded the program by presenting the Class of 2026 before Roshunna Taylor gave the benediction.
