Attala Center to offer additional courses this summer

The Holmes Community College Attala Educational Center is excited to announce the addition of new course offerings for the summer of 2016. Located on West Jefferson Street in Kosciusko, the state-of-the-art facility will continue to serve the community through academic, workforce and community skills enhancement (non-credit) course offerings.

For those interested in modular computer training, the Center is offering Modular Computer Training for the month of June. The training, "Window 7 Basics and PowerPoint 13 Basics," will be offered from 4-6 p.m. in five sessions: Thursday, June 9, and then Monday-Thursday, June 13-16. The topics covered will include: Windows 7 Basics (creating folders, navigating files, and saving files to external storage medium) and PowerPoint Basics (creating and editing a presentation with pictures).

The modular computer course will be taught by Teresa Trussell. Participants can earn 1.25 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) taking the modules, with a charge of $25 for the CEUS.

For those interested in learning CPR/First Aid, a class will be held on July 12 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. This Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches the skills necessary to perform basic first aid and CPR with the use of an automatic external defibrillator. This class is designed for industry, schools, businesses, as well as the general public. Taught by Genette Pierce, RN, the class will cost $25.

A ServSafe Manager Food Course will also be offered on July 19 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ServSafe training prepares participants for ServSafe certification and recertification as a Food Protection Manager. This workshop is for individuals seeking initial certification or recertification to work in an establishment handling food. The 8-hour course satisfies the Mississippi Department of Health Requirements: discusses food-borne illnesses, including information on specific food-borne pathogens and biological toxins, such as shellfish poisoning, contamination, and food allergens. The course, taught by Shawn Davis, will cost $150.

For those needing to earn a 10-hour OSHA card for general industry, a program will be offered July 26-27, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The OSHA Outreach Training program, taught by Cham Blain, costs $65, and limited seats are available. This program is one of OSHA's main methods of ensuring that workers know about workplace hazards and their rights. Participants will receive an official US Department of Labor OSHA10 Hour Card upon successful completion of your OSHA course.
