The Holmes Community College Attala Center in Kosciusko is offering an 8-week Professional Truck Driving training program that will run Feb. 17 through April 6. Taught by Rodney Mainelli, the program will meet Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and costs $1400.
The Professional Truck Driving training program prepares students to enter the commercial truck driving industry. The program includes: classroom lessons, a controlled driving environment and road driving time as part of instruction. Over the tenure of the course, students will master DOT rules and regulations, operating diesel-powered vehicles, shifting techniques, pre – and post-trip inspections and keeping necessary records.
Admission requirements include: passing the DOT physical, passing the DOT drug screen, a clean driving/criminal record and possession of a CDL Class A permit. Students must be 18 or older, as well. Graduates of the CDL training acquire knowledge in DOT rules and regulations, pre- and post-trip inspections, proper shifting techniques and proper backing techniques.
The truck driving industry is a promising fields for citizens in today's economy. According to the American Trucking Association (ATA), there are approximately 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the United States, meaning that approximately one out of every 15 workers in the country is employed in the trucking business. These statistics imply that trucking is an extremely stable industry that is likely to continue generating jobs in the years to come.
