RIDGELAND, Miss. — Holmes Community College employees Shea Coleman and Jovonna Parker were pinned following completion of the Mississippi Community College Board Career Technical Education Leadership Academy during a ceremony held April 28 at the Clyde Muse Center in Pearl.
Coleman and Parker recently graduated from the MCCB Career Technical Education Leadership Academy, a professional development program designed for career and technical education administrators across the state. They were among a select group of community college leaders who completed the program during the 2025–2026 academic year.
Coleman serves as program director of the Surgical Technology program at Holmes and teaches on the Ridgeland Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science in clinical exercise physiology from Mississippi State University and an Associate of Applied Science in surgical technology from Hinds Community College. She is a Certified Surgical Technologist and earned the Fellow of the Association of Surgical Technologists (FAST) designation in 2022.
Coleman is an active leader in the Association of Surgical Technologists, serving on the Mississippi State Assembly Board in multiple roles, including president, vice president and treasurer, and contributing to the organization’s education professional committee.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to complete the Leadership Academy,” Coleman said. “This experience has strengthened my commitment to lead with clarity, purpose and impact as I continue to serve students, the profession and the future of surgical technology.”
Parker serves as a career technical education counselor and adjunct instructor at Holmes Community College’s Ridgeland Campus. In addition to her recent pinning, she is a 2022 graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy (MCCLA). Parker is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in higher education at Delta State University. She also holds a Master of Arts in liberal studies with a focus on gender and diversity from Delta State, as well as a Bachelor of Science in office administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Throughout her career, Parker has held several leadership roles, including serving as the director of student disability services at Hinds Community College, where she supervised 20 staff members and interpreters. She also has experience drafting and executing MCCB nontraditional grants.
“I was honored to represent Holmes in the MCCB Leadership Academy,” Parker said. “We have a strong network of community college faculty and staff across our state, and I appreciate Dr. Sterling and MCCB for advancing our professional growth through this academy.”
The MCCB Career Technical Education Leadership Academy provides practical, hands-on leadership training for career technical administrators across Mississippi. The program focuses on topics such as effective communication, ethics in the workplace, conflict resolution, leadership development, legislative processes and the socioeconomic impact on community college students.
Participants engage in a variety of learning experiences, including collaborative discussions, book studies, legislative session attendance and in-person training sessions throughout the academic year. A completion and pinning ceremony is held each spring.
