Construction 101: Holmes Community College to offer Construction Readiness Training

RIDGELAND, Miss. — Holmes Community College Workforce Development, in partnership with the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District (CMPDD), will host a Mississippi Reconnect Construction 101 (NCCER Core) training course beginning in January 2026 on the Ridgeland Campus.
As part of the Mississippi Reconnect initiative, the program is designed to help individuals enter or advance in the skilled trades. The course is open to all community members—no prior construction experience required.
Classes will run Jan. 12–Feb. 12, Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will gain foundational knowledge in construction safety, hand and power tools, construction math, communication skills and other essential areas aligned with NCCER Core curriculum standards.
Holmes’ goal is to provide accessible training that empowers individuals to learn a new skill, build confidence and prepare for a high-demand career path. This partnership with CMPDD allows the college to expand opportunities for adult learners looking to reconnect with education and workforce training.
