Holmes ADN Instructor Alicia Turner recognized among ‘Best in Healthcare’ by Today’s Nurse

Holmes Community College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor Alicia L. Turner, MSN, RN, was recently recognized by the organization Today’s Nurse. The healthcare organizations honors individuals who are making an impact, and Turner was recognized as one of the Best in Healthcare for her integrity, experience and dedication.

Turner joined the Holmes Ridgeland Campus nursing faculty as an adjunct in 2017 then full-time in 2020. She came to the college from Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson where she worked full-time as head nurse on the 5D oncology unit. Turner continued working at Baptist part-time until last year. She still works part-time at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), where she has been training new nurses on the kidney/liver transplant unit since 2020.

A Holmes alumna, she holds a mortuary science degree, a practical nursing degree and an ADN degree from the college. Prior to completing her degrees at Holmes, she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Jackson State University, and since then, has earned a BSN from the University of Women as well as an MSN from University of Alabama in Birmingham. Turner will graduate from UMMC on May 23 with her Doctoral of Nursing Practice.

Turner was named Nurse Educator 2020 by Baptist and is a member of American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurse Association, Oncology Nursing Society and Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Mu honor society. She is also the Co-Chair of Education for Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies with her family and working in the yard. Turner also enjoys volunteering at church with the food ministry, singing in the church choir and mentoring new nurses.

Turner and her husband Frederick have three children: Kaylyn, Maddison and Brandon.
