Holmes’ Gibson Parish receives MAMA Scholarship for 2024-25 school year

Holmes Community College sophomore Gibson Parish of Lexington has been named a 2024-25 Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association (MAMA) scholarship recipient.

Parish, the son of Candice and Jason Parish, is an industrial technology major at Holmes on the Goodman Campus. He served as the videographer/manager for the Holmes football team in 2023 and currently serves as videographer for the Holmes cheerleaders. He’s a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, as well. Parish graduated with honors from Central Holmes Christian School in 2023 where he was a member of the drama club, ran track and played football for four years. While in high school, he was awarded the Football Coach’s Award for the 2022 season when his team competed for the 3A State championship.

Parish has job experience at both Chenoa Landscaping and Creed Ranch. His essay submitted for the scholarship stated, “What excites me most about the automotive industry is its relentless pursuit of technological advancement and its pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation. From electric vehicles to cutting-edge safety features, the industry is constantly evolving, presenting new challenges and opportunities for innovation. My goal is to be at the forefront of this evolution, contributing fresh ideas and creative solutions that drive the industry forward.”

MAMA’s scholarship fund has supported 243 students enrolled in Mississippi community colleges and universities with a total of $437,500 awarded since 2006. From an outstanding applicant pool, MAMA awarded 14 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year to community college and university students interested in pursuing a career in the automotive manufacturing industry. MAMA has supported the growth of a strong workforce essential to the health of all industries in the state since its inception in 2006.

MAMA serves its members by promoting growth, development and improvement in the automotive industry in Mississippi, as well as serving as a forum for interaction among automotive manufacturing companies in the state.

“Mississippi has an environment conducive to advanced manufacturing,” said MAMA President Skip Scaggs. “We are proud that Mississippi’s higher education system has invested heavily in educational opportunities and facilities which ensure the state will be able to produce the talented workforce necessary to keep the automotive industry strong. MAMA is committed to doing our part to recognize that workforce. I congratulate each of these students and wish them success in completing their degree, followed by a successful start in our industry!”
