Holmes Community College held its 91st commencement exercises on May 10 in Frank Branch Coliseum on the Goodman Campus. The ceremony for Goodman and Grenada campuses and the Attala Center was held at 10 a.m. The ceremony for the Ridgeland Campus and the Yazoo City location was held at 2 p.m.

This year, there were 10 valedictorians, all who had a perfect 4.0 GPA, and two salutatorians, with 3.98 GPAs. The valedictorians included Nickolas Bails, Bradford James, Garret James Kelley, Loftin Price, Makenzie Ryals, Lake Shipp, Tyler Sloan, Mary Morgan Stafford, James Swinney and Hallie Westbrook. The salutatorians were Robert B. Oakes and Jacquelyn Seuser.

Six students were also recognized for receiving special scholarships. Seuser, Westbrook and Courtney Dees were named Outstanding Phi Theta Kappans, and Sloan, Macie Craddock and Chelsea Williams were recognized for receiving the M.C. McDaniel Scholarship. The M.C. McDaniel family established the scholarship to be presented to outstanding graduating sophomores who plan to further his/her education as an institution of higher learning.

Additionally, Westbrook, who is president of SkillsUSA in Goodman, carried the mace for the first ceremony and James, who is vice president of scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa in Grenada, gave the invocation. During the afternoon ceremony, Seuser, president of the Ridgeland Phi Theta Kappa chapter, carried the mace and Ridgeland SkillsUSA President Antonio Benson gave the invocation.

The mace, or scepter, was formally presented to Pat McGowan, former president of the Holmes Board of Trustees, on April 15, 2004. It was a donation from former Holmes Vice President of Academic Programs Luther Boggan and created along with Fine Arts Chair Jay Cheatham. The physical symbol represents the college, founded in 1925, and its collective history; near the top of it, there are small plates, each engraved with one of the nine counties within the college's district.
