RIDGELAND, Miss. — Holmes Community College held its 2026 Paramedic Program graduation ceremony July 30 at 3 p.m. at the Pat McGowan Workforce Building on the Ridgeland Campus.
The ceremony recognized 11 graduates of the college’s paramedics program. The graduating class included James Bounds, Domonic Boyd, Jamicheal Dickerson, Jonathan Griffith, Alyssa Huskey, Chantella Jackson, Jalen Muckelvene, Chase Nielsen, Jeffrey Riggs, Lashonda Taylor and Jailyn Woods. The program is taught by Mark Galtelli, Sandra Hultz and Yancy Brewer.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Galtelli. Brewer then announced Riggs as the EMS Student of the Year, recognizing his outstanding dedication and performance in both clinical rotations and the classroom. Following the recognition, Brewer called each graduate’s name, and Galtelli presented the graduates with certificates. Boyd closed the ceremony by presenting the three instructors with a customized plaque on behalf of the class, honoring their guidance and commitment throughout the program.
The Paramedic program at Holmes prepares students for advanced roles in emergency medicine. Open to nationally registered EMTs, the program is offered at the campuses in Ridgeland and Grenada, with successful completion leading to a certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree. Paramedics provide direct patient care for a broad range of injuries and illnesses, and while most work on ambulances, graduates also pursue careers as offshore paramedics, combat or SWAT medics, safety officers and flight paramedics. Experienced paramedics may go on to the Critical Care Paramedic program — a track originally designed and implemented by Holmes’ own EMS staff — which prepares graduates for careers in critical care transport.
The program’s mission is to provide quality, cognitive-based education and clinical opportunities that enable motivated students to become competent, ethical paramedics and strong representatives of both Holmes and the EMS profession. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
