Holmes instructor Liz McLain appointed to State Massage Therapy Board

Holmes Community College is proud to announce that Liz McLain, massage therapy instructor for the college, has been appointed to the Mississippi State Board of Massage Therapy (MSBMT). MSBMT is a regulatory board, established by legislation in 2001, in regards to public health.

“Since Massage Therapists are considered health care professionals in our state and many others, the MSBMT holds us to the highest standards of professionalism and care,” McLain said. “After being in the field for 20 years and teaching future massage therapists (on the coast and Central Mississippi now) for almost as long, it is quite an honor to now serve my field, fellow licensed massage therapists (LMT)s, future LMTs and the public in maintaining those standards among us. I am excited to see the massage therapy field grow in Mississippi, and I’m definitely over-the-moon excited to see how much it has grown and will continue to grow here at Holmes Community College!”

McLain will serve a four-year term, where she will help oversee the licensing, regulation and educational standards of massage therapists throughout the state. She has served as program instructor for Holmes’ Massage Therapy program since its inception in 2021. Prior to Holmes, she served as program director for the program at Blue Cliff College in Gulfport for over 12 years. She also served at program director for Virginia College’s program from 2013 – 2016. McLain earned her Associate of Science from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with an emphasis in Health Sciences/ Allied Health.

“We are so proud of Liz’s appointment to the Massage Therapy Board!” said Director of Health Sciences Allison DeWeese. “Holmes Community College is very fortunate to have Liz as our Massage Therapy instructor. Her dedication, expertise and passion for massage therapy will help shape the future of the profession.”
