Rachel Havens, a librarian on the Holmes Community College Goodman Campus, has been selected to participate in the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub’s competitive two-week residential workshop this summer at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
The workshop, hosted by the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub (MS-DH Hub), is designed for Mississippi-based faculty, museum professionals and archivists. It will focus on the fundamentals of collecting and preserving materials through digitization, as well as cost-effective and accessible strategies for making those materials publicly available and understandable. The Hub aims to support community-based projects that help preserve Mississippi’s historical, cultural and literary heritage. It is funded through a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, a division of the National Archives.
Havens holds a Master of Library Science from USM, a bachelor’s from Mississippi State University and an associate degree from Holmes. This workshop will serve as a professional opportunity for Havens, and will teach her how to better preserve and share Mississippi’s unique stories through digital tools and community collaboration.
