The Mississippi Business Journal named Holmes Community College as a finalist for the "Best Two-Year College" in Mississippi, ranking the college second in the state.
A ceremony was held at Old Capitol Inn in Jackson to honor all of those who were ranked in the annual poll. Jones College was named no. 1 Best Two-Year College with Hinds Community College coming in third place. Ridgeland Campus Vice President Dr. Don Burnham, who accepted the plaque on behalf of the college, expressed his gratitude for the college's ranking.
"On behalf of our institution, we are thrilled to be recognized as one of the best of the best in Mississippi," Dr. Burnham said. "At Holmes, we are proud to provide a quality, affordable education with some of the best instructors in the state."
Since opening its doors 92 years ago, more than 20,000 alumni have received an education and/or trained for the workforce at Holmes Community College. Holmes has grown from an agricultural junior college in Goodman into a multi-campus institution that offers the Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Applied Science degree, technical and career certificates, and workforce training. The college now offers more than 50 academic majors, approximately 30 professional programs, over 50 extracurricular activities, 10 athletic sports, and a variety of student support services.
"At Holmes, our employees go above and beyond to make sure that our students are successful," Dr. Burnham said. "It is our mission to make a positive difference in our students' lives which in turn makes a positive difference in our community and our state. Again, we are so thankful to MBJ for recognizing Holmes as one of the top Two-Year Colleges in Mississippi.
