Holmes offering Professional Truck Driver Training across the district

With the growing need for skilled drivers, Holmes Community College is taking action to create opportunities for those pursuing careers in the transportation field. The college’s Workforce Development Department is offering Professional Truck Driver Training Program courses at Holmes’ locations in Goodman, Grenada and Yazoo City.
The Professional Truck Driver Training Program is a comprehensive six-eight week course that equips students with the skills needed to thrive in the commercial truck driving industry. Classes run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. The next program begins on Monday, Feb. 10.
The curriculum includes a mix of classroom instruction, controlled driving environments and road driving practice. Students will learn essential skills such as operating diesel-powered vehicles, understanding DOT rules and regulations, mastering shifting techniques, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, handling cargo and maintaining accurate records.
The cost of the Professional Truck Driver Training Program is $1,450. To enroll, participants must be 18 years or older and hold a valid CDL Class A permit.
