RIDGELAND — Registration is now open for Holmes Community College’s Introduction to Welding workforce training course, which will be held Aug. 24 through Oct. 22 on the Ridgeland Campus.
Classes will meet Monday through Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the McGowan Workforce Training Center The course registration fee is $125.
Introduction to Welding is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of welding through hands-on instruction in metal inert gas (MIG/GMAW) and shielded metal arc welding (Stick/SMAW) techniques. Participants will gain practical experience using industry equipment, develop foundational welding skills and earn an industry-recognized certificate of completion from Holmes Community College.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Students are also required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including leather boots (preferably without laces; boots with laces must be covered with spats) and 100% cotton shirts and pants. Shirts must not have chest pockets unless the pockets have protective flaps.
The $125 registration fee will be waived for participants enrolled by a WIN Job Center career coach or a Holmes Community College GED instructor.
Class size is limited, and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration deadline is noon on Aug. 18.
