Holmes Community College was ranked #2 for Best Online Community Colleges in Mississippi by Optimal's Guide to Online Schools. Optimal (formerly SR Education Group) has been publishing rankings of online colleges since 2009. The company's goal is to help students make educated decisions when choosing an online degree.

To compile this list, each community college was ranked by several important factors, including retention rate, graduation rate, percentage of online enrollment data and the number of online associate degrees offered. Guide to Online Schools also provides a manually researched tuition rate, sourced from the college's official website.

"While we are honored to receive this award, it is a team effort and takes the entire faculty, staff and administration of Holmes to achieve this distinction," said Holmes Director of eLearning Tish Stewart.

Holmes is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and is a member of the Mississippi Virtual Community College, or MSVCC. Students of MSVCC member schools are able to access and take courses from other MSVCC member schools while maintaining their home school. Holmes offers several career and technical degree programs through entirely or primarily online formats. Students may be able to pursue certificates or degrees in fields such as nursing, technology, criminal justice and billing & coding.
