RIDGELAND, Miss. — Holmes Community College recognized outstanding student achievement during its 40th Annual Awards and Honors Program held April 14 in the McGowan Workforce Training Center on the Ridgeland Campus.
The program featured an introduction by Allison DeWeese, director of Health Science Programs, and an invocation by Dr. Bronwyn Martin, vice president of the Ridgeland Campus. Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Tonya Lawrence, dean of academics for the Ridgeland Campus.
Students were honored across a wide range of academic and career and technical programs. Academic award recipients included Alayna Lowery in Business Administration; Matthew Hatchett in English and Foreign Language; Alejandro Robles in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and Biological Science; Dylan Kilpatrick in History and Political Science; Phoebe Ferguson in Criminal Justice; Laila Seals in Journalism; Mika Maehata in Engineering; Ashlyn Dodd in Physical Science; Emma Korhonen in Mathematics; and Ian Willoughby in Social and Behavioral Science. Myesha White received the Rising Educator Award.
Career and technical honors were awarded to Victoria Thomas in Business Technology; Dallas Kurtz in Paralegal Technology; James Price in Information Systems Technology; Danielle Dunn in Welding and Cutting Technology; Matthew Galloway in Electro Mechanical Technology; Cadence Neal in Engineering Technology; Patrick Kelly in Culinary Arts Technology; Tristen Sierra in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; and Salayah Barnes in Associate Degree Nursing.
Special recognition was also given to Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Angel, along with honorees Mary Crawford, Alisha Davis, Ashlyn Dodd, Kelsey Hall, J’race L. Jamison, Anna Korhonen, Emma Korhonen, Mika Maehata, Brooklin Potee, Tyler Sims and Alyssa Vancor. The Hall of Fame represents the highest honor a student can receive at Holmes.
The annual event celebrates student excellence and highlights the academic and technical accomplishments of Holmes Community College students. Attendees were invited to remain after the ceremony for photos honoring the recipients.
