Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus Police Officer Sgt. Michael Jones was recognized as a 2025 Top Cop, a prestigious recognition given to outstanding law enforcement officers across Mississippi. He was honored alongside 68 other officers from across the state during a luncheon on May 13 held at the Mississippi Trademart in Jackson.
Jones, who has served in law enforcement for six years and nine months, has been with the Holmes Ridgeland Campus Police Department for just under a year and a half. He will be honored during the annual Police Memorial and Appreciation Luncheon, set for May 13 at the Mississippi Trade Mart Center in Jackson. The Top Cop program, now in its 20th year, recognizes exemplary agents from state and metro area law enforcement agencies.
In August 2024, Sgt. Jones played a critical role in resolving a vandalism case on campus. After staff discovered damage to the Ridgeland Campus Fitness Center on Aug. 20, Jones’ dedicated surveillance efforts led to the identification and capture of a suspect who also had outstanding warrants with the Ridgeland Police Department.
Beyond his law enforcement duties, Sgt. Jones is committed to community engagement. He actively participates in the SR1 After-School Program, visiting with students daily and providing guidance on topics such as bullying, academic excellence and becoming productive members of society. Recently, he celebrated the students’ good behavior and academic achievements by hosting a pizza party in their honor.
Holmes Community College congratulates Sgt. Jones on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for his continued dedication to keeping the campus and community safe.
