Holmes student Easton McAdory awarded Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship

Easton McAdory, a 2025 Holmes Community College graduate, has been awarded the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship, a prestigious program designed to support aspiring physicians who plan to serve in rural communities across the state.

The son of Lisa and Jeffrey McAdory of Brandon, he was a pre-medicine major on the Holmes Ridgeland Campus. McAdory will continue his education this fall at Mississippi State University, where he plans to pursue a degree in medical technology with a pre-medicine emphasis.

“It was a pleasure to have Easton in my microbiology class,” said Dr. Antoine Gates, Holmes’ STEM Chair. “He consistently demonstrated strong lab skills and a genuine curiosity for learning science. What stood out even more was his maturity and willingness to build strong relationships: he made a clear effort to connect with his instructors and was thoughtful and respectful in how he engaged with his classmates. I have no doubt he’ll be a successful physician one day.”

Beyond his academic achievements, McAdory is actively involved in the healthcare field. He works part-time at St. Dominic’s Hospital and volunteers in the hospital’s Emergency Room, experiences that have solidified his interest in medicine and provided him with firsthand insights into patient care.

“This fall marks an exciting new chapter as I begin my studies at Mississippi State University,” McAdory said. “I believe this program will provide a strong foundation for my future aspirations in the medical field.”

In addition to his healthcare experience, McAdory volunteers at his church, where he participates in youth programs. He also enjoys spending time with friends and playing video games as a way to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

McAdory’s ultimate career goal is to become a surgeon, with a current focus on general surgery, which aligns with the requirements of the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program. While he plans to practice in Mississippi, he remains open to exploring specialized surgical fields as he gains more experience.

“I am particularly interested in the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program as a pathway to achieving my dream of becoming a surgeon,” McAdory said. “Practicing in Mississippi will be a primary focus, but I am open to the possibility of specializing later in my career.”

The was established to address the critical need for physicians in rural areas by providing scholarships to students who commit to practicing in these underserved communities after completing their medical education.
