Holmes to celebrate Custodian Appreciation Day on Oct. 2

GOODMAN, Miss. — Holmes Community College is honoring its custodial, maintenance and grounds staff in recognition of Custodian Appreciation Day on Thursday, Oct. 2, with celebrations held on each campus. The district-wide celebration recognizes the hard work and dedication of these essential team members who keep Holmes a clean, safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Executive Vice President Sonny Sparks expressed gratitude on behalf of the college.

“So thankful for our incredible custodial, maintenance and grounds staff at Holmes Community College! Their hard work keeps our campuses clean and welcoming for all. Their positive attitude and hard work make all the difference. We truly appreciate the extra effort they put in to make everything perfect for our recent accreditation visit. Their dedication makes Holmes truly a special place, and we thank them for that!” Sparks said.

At the Ridgeland Campus, Vice President Dr. Bronwyn Martin praised the team’s commitment to excellence.

“On the Ridgeland Campus we are blessed to have such an outstanding custodial, maintenance and grounds team,” Dr. Martin said. “Together they ensure campus looks beautiful and all of our constituents leave with a positive first impression of our grounds and buildings. This team quietly works behind the scenes with tremendous dedication. They create a safe, welcoming campus where our employees and students can learn, work and thrive. From greeting students with a friendly smile to tackling unforeseen maintenance issues, we are grateful to have each and every one of them as invaluable members of our Holmes family. We thank them for their contributions and helping us all live up to why we confirm there is ‘No Place Like Holmes.’”

Vice President of the Grenada Campus Dr. Matt Surrell also expressed gratitude for the staff’s tireless service.

“Our maintenance and custodial staff works tirelessly every day to make sure that our staff and our students have a safe, clean and welcoming place to work and learn,” Dr. Surrell said. “This fact was evident most recently from the many comments that we received from the SACSCOC Committee concerning how nice and clean our facilities were. The thing that impresses me the most about our staff is the pride that they take in making sure that their work is completed well. Their dedication, professionalism and tireless efforts often go unseen, but I hope they understand that they are never unnoticed. On behalf of everyone, I want to thank our staff for their commitment to all of us and to Holmes Community College!”

Goodman Campus Vice President Andy Wood shared a similar sentiment, calling the custodial and maintenance staff “the backbone of the school.”

The Oct. 2 celebration across Holmes’ campuses highlights the college’s appreciation for the staff who play a vital role in creating an environment where students can succeed. Custodian Appreciation Day is recognized nationally each year as a time to thank custodial and maintenance employees for the vital role they play in keeping schools, businesses and organizations running smoothly.
