Holmes to launch district-wide Professional Truck Driving Classes on Sept. 16

Holmes Community College will begin new classes for its Professional Truck Driver Training Program on Monday, Sept. 16, at locations across the district.

The six- to eight-week program prepares students to enter the commercial truck driving industry. Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Holmes’ campuses in Goodman, Ridgeland, Grenada, Kosciusko, and Yazoo City.

The program includes classroom instruction, training in a controlled driving environment, and road driving. Students will learn to operate diesel-powered vehicles, understand Department of Transportation rules and regulations, master shifting techniques, and conduct pre- and post-trip inspections. The course also covers loading and unloading cargo and maintaining necessary records.

The cost of the program is $1,450. Students must be at least 18 years old and have a Class A permit.

Seating is limited. For more information, contact Kim Fowler at kfowler@holmescc.edu.
