Holmes to offer fiber optics workforce training in July

RIDGELAND — Holmes Community College will offer Fiber Optics 1-2-3 workforce training beginning in July on the Ridgeland Campus.
The course prepares participants for in-demand careers in fiber optics, with a focus on skills aligned with the needs of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its network partners. Students will gain hands-on experience in fiber splicing, installation and troubleshooting, skills critical for supporting data centers and modern communication infrastructure. The role may require working in confined spaces or at heights, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends. Technicians should be comfortable with physically demanding tasks, including lifting equipment and navigating challenging environments.
Participants must be 18 years old or older, have a high school diploma or GED and possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. A basic understanding of technical systems, operations or information technology is helpful but not required.
Classes will meet July 13-24, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the Ridgeland Campus.
The $125 class fee must be paid to finalize registration. Class size is limited, and enrollment is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is not final until payment is received in full. The deadline for registration and payment is noon July 9.
