Grenada Police Department veteran Joey Merriman has been named the new chief of police at the Goodman Campus of Holmes Community College.
Merriman brings over 25 years of law enforcement experience to the College’s main campus.
He attended the Grenada Campus of Holmes Community College and began in law enforcement in 1998 after being hired by the Grenada Police Department. Shortly after, he graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy in Pearl and served as a patrolman in Grenada.
From 2000-2002, he worked on the Grenada Drug Task Force and from 2002-2006, he served as evidence custodian for the Grenada PD before returning as a patrolman. He continued climbing the ranks at Grenada PD being named sergeant, captain and was named patrol commander in 2019.
He served as an instructor of defensive tactics (PPCT & SSGT) for 22 years and is certified in response to active shooter and criminal patrol and drug interdiction.
Merriman is married to his wife, Adrienne, and they have four sons, Josh, Jeremy, Noah and RJ, who is a member of the Holmes baseball team.
