The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Beta Chapter at Holmes Community College’s Grenada Campus is encouraging students, faculty and staff to make kindness a part of everyday campus life through its 2026-2027 College Project.
As part of the chapter’s Kindness at Holmes campaign, PTK members hosted Kindness Awareness Days Oct. 5-6 in the Corey Forum lobby. Throughout the two-day event, students were invited to participate in activities centered around encouragement, appreciation and creating a welcoming campus community.
PTK members distributed kindness-themed goodies, including stickers, stress balls, keychains and bracelets. An appreciation station allowed students to write letters to someone on campus they wanted to thank or encourage. PTK members then delivered the letters to their recipients.
The chapter also introduced its Kindness Letter Box, which will be located in the Deli. Students can write an encouraging note and place it in the box for someone else to find. Those who need a little encouragement of their own are invited to take a letter from the box.
Another activity gave students the opportunity to write positive messages on kindness pins and clothespins and then pass them along to others. Students could also access a kindness-themed playlist created by the chapter and visit a photo booth where they became the “I” in the word KIND.
The Kindness Awareness Days are just one part of Alpha Mu Beta’s semester-long effort. In September, members placed posters featuring encouraging messages and slogans throughout the Grenada Campus to provide students with unexpected reminders of positivity during their day.
The chapter plans to continue incorporating activities throughout the academic year that encourage students and employees to show appreciation, offer encouragement and find simple ways to make a difference in the lives of others.
The message behind the project is simple: Give a little kindness. Take a little kindness. Pass it on.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges and recognizes academic achievement while providing members with opportunities for leadership, service and personal development.
