Students Recognized at Adult Education Awards Day

Students Recognized at Adult Education Awards Day Holmes Community College held its Adult Education Awards Day at the Goodman Campus on May 16. Nineteen students were presented awards.

Those recognized included: Eddie Blackmon, Aasia Crockett, Jenna Ellis, Destiny Fulcher, Dennis Harkins, Jada Hogan, Jay Howard, Devon Jefferson, Deanna Kern, Ashley Lee, Christen O' Daniel, Kellie Payne, Jemia Polk, Christopher Sanders, Tiffany Sisney, Britaneica Smith, Freddricka Stokes, Teresa Thompson and Michael Willcox.

The ceremony began with a welcome from Daphne Higgins, the Adult Education/HSE Instructor at the Yazoo Teen Center. Each campus was represented by its Adult Education students and instructors. An instructor from each campus stood to award its students the award that best represented them.

The awards presented to the students of the Attala Center were: Above and Beyond Award: Jeanny Hood; Academic Excellence Award: William Duckworth; Achievement Award: Tiffany Sisney; Artfully Creative Award: Destiny Fulcher; Teamwork Award: Jada Hogan; Most Improved Award: Brady Minshew; Citizenship Award: Matthew May; Enthusiastic Learner: Deanna Kern; The Extra Mile Award: Christen O'Daniel; Leadership Award: Dennis Harkins; Work Ready Award: Clint Miller; and Mi Best Award: Clint Miller.

The awards presented to the students of the Madison WIN Job Center were: Citizenship Award: Freddricka Stokes; Leadership Award: Jenna VanHoose; and Above and Beyond Award: Teresa Thompson.

The awards presented to the students of the Yazoo City Campus were: Above and Beyond: Jay Howard; Academic Excellence Award: Hayden Smith; Achievement Award: Christopher Smith; Artfully Creative Award: Michael Wilcox; Teamwork Award: Michael Thornton; Most Improved Award: Grady Hearst; Citizenship Award: Ashley Lee; Enthusiastic Learner: Deonte' Taylor; The Extra Mile Award: Kellie Payne; and Leadership Award: Ashley Lee.

The awards presented to the students of the Ridgeland Campus were: Above and Beyond Award: Aasia Crockett; Academic Excellence Award: Britannica Smith; Achievement Award: Tra'Keria Williams; Artfully Creative Award: Jemia Polk; Teamwork Award: Belinda McLin; Most Improved Award: Alex Negron; Citizenship Award: Devon Jefferson; Enthusiastic Learner: Taylor Arnold; The Extra Mile Award: Audry Otto; Leadership Award: Eddie Blackmon; and Work Ready Award: Ladeja Thompson.

Tommy Trussell with the Attala Center, Brooke Hood with the Madison WIN Job Center, Lina Lopez with the Ridgeland Campus and Daphne Higgins with the Yazoo City Campus all stood to individually recognize each student with an award.

Earline Russell-Smith gave the closing remarks where she encouraged the students to continue expanding their minds daily. Russell-Smith also reminded the students that they possess something most traditional students do not: the ability to multitask. Most of our students are working, taking care of their families and attending classes.

The ceremony closed with a special thanks to the Adult Education faculty, staff and students.
