Eleven Holmes programs ranked by AffordableCollegesOnline.org

Earlier this year, Holmes Community College was named one of the nation's Best Online Community Colleges for 2016 by AffordableCollegesOnline.org (ACO), a leader in higher education information, resources and rankings. In addition to the 10 rankings Holmes received for the 2016-2017 school year, the college earned an additional 11 rankings for 2017-2018.

Amongst all the other two-year colleges in the nation, Holmes ranked: #2 in Online Architecture Degrees, #3 in Online Biology Degrees, #5 in Online Communications Degrees, #6 in Online Paralegal Programs, #6 in Online Art Degrees, #7 in Online Elementary Education Degrees, #8 in Online Secondary Education Degrees, #9 in Online Marketing Degrees, #10 in Online Healthcare Administration Degrees, #10 in Online English Degrees and #20 in Online Computer Science Degrees.

"We wanted to honor the schools and universities that are setting the standard for online learning," said Dan Schuessler, CEO and Founder of the ACO site.

"These schools are going above and beyond the industry standard to help make online education programs more affordable."

Only public, non-profit institutions were eligible for the ranking.

AffordableCollegesOnline.org has distinguished its ranking scale by the use of Peer-Based Value, or PBV. The PBV score compares the cost of each program to the cost of similar programs with the same qualitative score.

Holmes is part of the Mississippi Virtual Community College (MSVCC), and offers classes via the Internet platform Canvas. Courses are offered both by Holmes instructors and through other instructors in the MSVCC. Although a number of options are offered, including regular semester courses, four-week courses, and eight-week courses, the eLearning Department offers to customize schedules for interested students if they do not see a class they need.

A multi-campus institution, Holmes offers the Associate of Arts degree, Associate of Applied Science degree, technical and career certificates, and workforce training. The college now offers more than 50 academic majors, approximately 30 professional programs and a variety of student support services. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
