Jessica Goins Elliott, Holmes Community College Surgical Technology program director/instructor, was elected as National Secretary of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) National Board of Directors during the AST conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 21-23. The Association of Surgical Technologists is administered by an 11-person Board of Directors who are elected by the membership at the annual conference. The Board of Directors is composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and seven Directors. The Board of Directors is charged with the overall responsibility of conducting the affairs of the association.

AST actively promotes education for the profession; legislatively advocates for practitioner recognition; supports state-level constituent organizations; and has committed to students as the future of the profession.
