Holmes Community College Practical Nursing instructor Caley Stogner recently earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice – Pediatric Acute Care from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her dissertation was “Implementation of Early Referral to Palliative Care in Patients with Pancreatic Cancer.”
“My dissertation identified gaps in clinical practice nationally for implementing early referral to palliative care in patients with pancreatic cancer,” Dr. Stogner said. “I researched clinical and patient base measures within the UAB hematology-oncology cancer center in Birmingham, Alabama, to close the gap. My research has resulted in a collaboration conference with Sigma Theta Tau honor society for nurses on the national level.”
Dr. Stogner joined the Holmes nursing faculty in 2022 as one of the instructors for the new Practical Nursing evening/weekend program. Prior to Holmes, she was employed with the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse. She also has experience as a living donor transplant coordinator at UMMC, and as a Practical Nursing instructor at Hinds Community College.
Dr. Stogner and her husband, Ty, have a daughter, Zoey Claire, and a son, Brees. She is active in the community as a Mississippi Nurse Association Board Member, a Northwest Rankin Health Science School Advisory Board Member and as a member of the Mississippi Symphony League. In her free time, she enjoys embroidering and golfing.
