GOODMAN, Miss. — Madison Cummins, Holmes Community College’s director of admissions, completed her Doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated on Thursday, Dec. 11.
A native of Ethel, Cummins has been a member of the Holmes family since 2019. Throughout her tenure, she has served in several roles, including STEM Project director, Development Foundation secretary, financial aid advisor and admissions representative. Her broad experience in student support and academic program leadership has shaped her approach to serving Holmes’ students.
“Madison has worked very hard and we are all proud of her,” said Goodman Campus Vice President Andy Wood.
Holmes has long been a significant part of Cummins’ life; both of her parents worked at the college during her childhood. Now leading the admissions department, she said she looks forward to continuing her commitment to helping students navigate the enrollment process and begin their educational journeys.
“For my doctoral capstone, my study focused on student success outcomes and program effectiveness related to enrollment, retention and progression,” Cummins said. “The study highlighted key factors influencing student achievement and identified areas where targeted interventions could strengthen support structures and enhance overall educational impact. The findings contribute to ongoing conversations around improving student outcomes in higher education and offer insight into how institutions can better align resources, initiatives and student needs.”
Cummins said earning her doctorate has deepened her passion for creating opportunities for students at Holmes.
“This accomplishment motivates me even more to support our students and ensure they have every resource they need to succeed,” she said.
Cummins holds a Master of Science in Workforce Education Leadership from Mississippi State University, a Bachelor of Science in biology with a psychology minor from Delta State University, as well as an Associate of Arts in general biology from Hinds Community College.
Outside of her work at Holmes, Cummins enjoys spending time with her husband, Logan, and their dogs, Dusty and Sandy. She also loves hunting, fishing and being with family and friends.
“Madison’s dedication to Holmes, work ethic and educational achievement show exceptional commitment, discipline and excellence,” said Dr. Lindy McCain, vice president of student affairs. “I am extremely proud of her hard work and perseverance.”
