eLearning offers accelerated four-week courses

eLearning offers accelerated four-week courses The Holmes Community College eLearning Department is now offering online accelerated four-week courses. The first session of courses will be offered Sept. 21-Oct. 16, and students can sign up any time from now until the Friday before classes begin, Sept. 18. The classes will use eBooks that will already be loaded into the course.

The four-week courses offer a number of benefits to participating students.

"We are excited to debut new four-week course offerings for the fall of 2015," said Brian Risher, instructional design specialist. "For the past few semesters, the eLearning Department at Holmes Community College has promoted the slogan, "Anywhere. Anytime. Online." These new four-week courses give students even greater flexibility in their schedule."

Presently, 13 different course offerings are available, including Art Appreciation, Introduction to Business, Computer Applications I, American History I and II, Personal and Community Health, Music Appreciation, General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Marriage and Family, and Legal Environment of Business.

"I am very pleased to be able to offer an online class in the four-week format for the student that needs or wants to move at a faster pace," said Elizabeth Spooner, adjunct instructor of computer science. "With the four-week classes, students can focus on one or two subjects at a time and master the course work."

To view online classes from the eLearning web page, interested students can click on "Holmes Courses" and choose "Fall 2015" for the term, "Holmes Provided" for the session, "Academic"   for the division, and "Online" for the campus, and look for "1st 4wk" in the title.

To register for a fall four-week class, students must login to MyHolmes.

"Having the opportunity to take online classes is a great advantage to college students," said Shiquita Haralson, Holmes student and administrative assistant for the associate degree nursing program on the Ridgeland Campus. "eLearning gives students the privilege to work at their own pace and complete their academic career without having to sit inside of a classroom."

"I have taken both 8-week and 15-week online courses since I've been enrolled at Holmes, and it was a superb experience. The benefits I received from taking online classes included the abundance of free time as a college student, as well as the opportunity to complete the assignments at my convenience, including before the assignment due date."

The eLearning Office can also assist in customizing a schedule to fit a student's individual needs. Interested students can call the eLearning Office at (662) 472-9162 if they do not see a class that they need.
