Farris named director of eLearning for Holmes

Holmes Community College has named Shalon Farris as the new director of eLearning. Farris, a longtime member of the Holmes family, brings a wealth of experience in instructional technology and learning management systems, as well as a deep personal connection to the college.

Vice President for Academic Programs and eLearning Dr. Jenny B. Jones praised Farris’ promotion, stating, “Shalon brings a unique blend of institutional knowledge, statewide leadership experience and technical expertise that makes her the ideal person to lead our eLearning department. Her commitment to innovation and student success will strengthen Holmes’ ability to deliver high-quality online learning.”

Farris holds a master’s in management information systems and a bachelor’s in educational psychology, both from Mississippi State University. Her career began at Holmes, where she worked as a work-study student in the eLearning department while attending summer school. She later returned in a full-time role as a Learning Management System (LMS) administrator.

Her professional journey has taken her across the state and beyond. Farris served as program/technical specialist and later director of instructional technology for the Division of eLearning and Instructional Technology at the Mississippi Community College Board, where she supported all 15 community colleges across Mississippi. She also worked as an instructional designer for Instructure, the company behind Canvas, before returning to Holmes as eLearning systems administrator.

Now, as director of eLearning, Farris brings home the knowledge and expertise gained from each step of her career.

Outside of work, Farris enjoys spending time with her son, Jack, as well as her six nieces and nephews. Her oldest nephew will be attending Holmes as a freshman this fall. She also enjoys riding her bike, playing board games and is an active member of Madison Heights Church in Madison.
