Holmes Community College students Emma Brasher of Grenada, William Cooper Canard of Madison, Tierney Evans of Pearl, John Evins of Duck Hill and Johnathan Thompson of Camden were all named to the 2025 Phi Theta Kappa honor society All-Mississippi Academic Team. Nominations are based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community.
Emma Brasher
Emma Brasher is a pre-nursing major with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her outstanding achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including placement on the President’s List, the STEM Award, the Mathematics Award, induction into the Holmes Hall of Fame and the title of Campus Class Favorite. Beyond academics, Brasher is deeply involved in student life. She serves as the president of Phi Theta Kappa, as well as the president of the Student Government Association. Additionally, she is an active member of the Baptist Student Union and is an engaged member of Christ Community Church. Upon graduation, Brasher plans to continue her education at Delta State University, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her ultimate goal is to become a general nurse practitioner with a specialization in dermatology.
William Cooper Canard
Cooper Canard has pursued mechanical engineering at Holmes while achieving top academic honors, including placement on the President’s List and induction into the Holmes Hall of Fame. His leadership is evident in his role as president of Phi Theta Kappa. Canard plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to complete his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and later pursue a master’s degree. His long-term goal is to work for an innovative technology company like NASA or Boston Dynamics.
Tierney Evans
A native of Pearl, Tierney Evans graduated from the Holmes Goodman Campus in December 2024 and is currently majoring in nursing at The W – Mississippi University for Women. While at Holmes, she was actively involved in campus life, serving as the softball manager for 2024, and participating in the Baptist Student Union. During the summers, she works as a lifeguard and counselor for Camp Pioneer, part of Pioneer Ministries. In her free time, Evans enjoys reading, baking, learning new things, photography and shopping.
John Evins
John Evins is a dedicated student pursuing a degree in kinesiology with a 3.80 GPA. Throughout his time at Holmes, he has earned recognition as an Ambassador, a consistent member of the Dean’s List and a recipient of the English Composition Award. He is actively involved in campus life, serving as the vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa, representing students in the Student Government Association and participating in intramural sports. He was also named a Class Favorite and chosen as a Homecoming Court escort. After graduating from Holmes, Evins plans to further his education at the University of Mississippi, where he will complete his bachelor’s degree before applying to UMMC in Jackson to pursue a PhD in Physical Therapy.
Johnathan Thompson
Johnathan Thompson is a civil engineering major who was inducted into the Holmes Hall of Fame. After Holmes, he will transfer to Jackson State University to earn a bachelor’s degree, with a long-term goal of real estate development and urban planning. Thompson has been recognized on the President’s and Dean’s Lists and is a Phi Theta Kappa officer.
