English instructor Amy Land announced the winners of the 2023 Creative Writing Contest for the Holmes Community College Grenada Campus. All winners receive cash prizes furnished by the Holmes Foundation. First and second place winners are forwarded to the Mississippi Community College Creative Writing Association Contest and will be published in Holmes’ literary magazine, Reflections.
In the Poetry Category, Olivia Pharr of Charleston won first place for “We Carry Ourselves” and Jaylan Mathis of Gore Springs won second place for “No Pause to Life.”
In the Creative Non-Fiction Category, Pharr won first place for “Reality,” Jay Downs of Grenada won second place for “I’m Still Here” and Lauren Merrill of Grenada came in third place for “The Radio.”
Finally, in the Short Story division, Kevion McGee of Grenada won first place for “Being Adopted Experience.”
