On Monday, Aug. 6, Holmes Community College celebrated the upcoming 2018-2019 school year with a "Running of the Bull(dog)s" themed Opening Convocation on the Goodman Campus. The day included: a breakfast social, a mechanical bull riding competition, an introduction of new employees, a president's message, break-out sessions and recognition of those who have reached milestones for their years of service to Holmes. The Goodman Campus employees recognized for five years of service with the college included: dorm security guard Larry Lipsey and Director of Library Services Jim Thompson.

Ridgeland Campus faculty and staff recognized for five years were: Dr. Tiffany Cox, Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) instructor; David Jones, funeral services technology instructor; Marty Lawrence, maintenance; Dr. Lakesia Sutton, practical nursing instructor and Dr. Amy Wolgamott, public speaking instructor.

On the Grenada Campus, five-year service award recipients included: Kathryn Cox, academics counselor; Lisa Davis, nursing instructor; Norman Faulkner, welding instructor; Robert Green, EMT instructor; David Hill, Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition (HVAC) instructor and Jay Wilson, history instructor. 10 Years of Service

The Goodman Campus faculty and staff members recognized for 10 years of service with the college included: Carlos Andrews, director of intramurals/fitness; Jamilah Andrews, head women's basketball coach; Dr. Donna Banks, piano instructor; Jacqueline Bell, psychology instructor; Angela Boyd, academic counselor for student support services; Judy Burrell, administrative assistant for human resources; Bryant Crayton, security officer; Dr. Jackie Hale, academics counselor; Lee Harmon, police sergeant; Jason Harrison, assistant men's basketball coach, Heather Jones, chemistry instructor and cheerleading coach; Nancy Parkerson, eLearning coordinator; Willie Roby, police officer and Jearlean Smith, maintenance.

Ridgeland Campus honorees for 10 years included: Ryan Beggs, Health, Performance and Recreation (HPR) instructor and director of evening programs; Darleen Dozier, paralegal technology instructor; Mark Galtelli, Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) instructor; Judy Hemphill, admissions representative; Sgt. John McCoy, police sergeant; Erin Renfroe, English instructor and Kana Williams, Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) director.

Finally, the Grenada Campus 10-year service recipients were: John Byars, maintenance; Debbie Harville, admissions representative; Diann Parker, English instructor; Dean Savage; science instructor and Judy Smith, administrative assistant for the ADN program. 15 Years of Service

The Goodman Campus employees recognized for 15 years of service with the college included: Willie Chambers, maintenance; Jeffrey Cotton, HVAC instructor; Tess Crenshaw, career skills coordinator; Dr. Jim Haffey, college president and Bertha White, housekeeper.

Ridgeland Campus faculty and staff recognized for 15 years were: Dr. Don Burnham, Ridgeland Campus vice president; Angela Crain, workforce development coordinator; Michelle Dancy, business administration instructor; Dr. Andrew Kelly, English instructor and Gee-Wei Lee, mathematics instructor.

For the Grenada Campus, Shae Wang was the only 15-year service award recipient. She is a computer science and mathematics instructor. 20 Years of Service

The Goodman Campus faculty and staff members recognized for 20 years of service with the college included: Director of Communications/Assistant Athletic Director Steve Diffey and Steven Groves, a mechanic.

For the Ridgeland Campus, 20-year service recipients included: Tammy Collins, IT programmer/analyst; Dr. Tommy Garrett, funeral services technology director/instructor; Donna Josey, business administration instructor; Jesse Nichols, IT specialist and Jean Powers, public speaking instructor.

From the Grenada Campus, maintenance engineer Trent Little was the sole 20-year service award recipient. 25 and 30 Years of Service

One employee, Ridgeland Campus pre-core instructor Angie Blain, was recognized for 25 years of service with the college. Finally, two employees received recognition for their 30 years of loyal service to Holmes: Goodman Campus foreign language instructor Maria Edwards and Natural Sciences Department Chair Joe David White from the Ridgeland Campus.
