Holmes Ridgeland holds graduation for AWS Information Infrastructure Apprenticeship Program

Holmes Community College successfully launched Mississippi’s first Amazon Web Services (AWS) Information Infrastructure Pre-Apprenticeship (I2PA) program, designed to equip participants with in-demand skills for careers in information infrastructure. There have only been two other I2PA programs in the nation so far. The four-week program ran from Nov. 4-Dec. 6, concluding with an opportunity for graduates to network with subject matter experts from AWS as well as other vendors and contractors on the last day.

Graduates of the program included Nicole Arbour, James Austin, Nicholas Beasley, Robert Burgess, Romello Carter, Alysia Green, Brendon Groves, Brittany Hobson, Gabriel Hopkins, Bryant Jackson, Travis Johnson, Nathaniel Jones, Ryan Korn, Andrew Levine, John Munn, Daniel Rosenbloom, Bre Anna Sanders, Brian Shook, Mikel Stephen, Albert Taylor, Hanson Tran and Alana Woodruff. Cham Blain, Ben Kay and Larry Tait served as program instructors, with various industry representatives coming in to lead trainings, as well.

During the AWS I2PA program, participants completed 30 hours of hands-on training each week, learning the skills needed to build, connect, power and operate the infrastructure that drives the global information economy. Training was conducted using the tools and materials found in the field, providing practical, job-ready experience in AWS cloud technology, networking and security. Participants explored key elements of mission-critical building projects, including fiber optics, electrical and mechanical systems, computer servers, and the software used in the design and construction of these facilities and systems. They gained insights into high-demand careers and performed work functions typically found in real-world job settings.

Additionally, the apprenticeship program sharpened participants skills applicable to any career, including problem-solving, time management, teamwork, persistence and effective collaboration. While completing the training, they earned industry-required certificates—including AWS I2PA and OSHA 10—and were compensated. The program was part of AWS’s broader commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive tech workforce by providing accessible pathways into high-growth careers. It aligned with Holmes’ mission to provide relevant, high-quality educational opportunities that empower individuals to succeed in a global society.
