Tina Garrett named Coordinator of Academic Programs for Holmes Grenada

Tina Garrett was recently named the new Coordinator of Academic Programs on the Holmes Community College Grenada Campus. She previously served as a psychology instructor for the college.

A native of Winona, Garrett is a Mississippi Delta Community College alumna who earned an Associate of Arts degree before transferring to Delta State University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology followed by a master’s degree in counseling, both from Delta State University. Garrett is currently a doctoral candidate at Delta State University.

Garrett has cultivated a diverse knowledge in higher education as a result of teaching and counseling for the past 20 years. Prior to her role as a psychology instructor, she served as a mental health therapist and worked in higher education as a career counselor at Mississippi Valley State University.

“My love for higher education began at Mississippi Valley, and that led to an over 20-year career teaching psychology and advising students,” Garrett said.

She taught psychology at Mississippi Delta Community College for 12 years before coming to Holmes as a psychology instructor in 2014.

Garrett began serving as the Holmes division chair for social and behavioral sciences in 2017. As a faculty member, she served on the Mississippi Faculty Association of Community Colleges as secretary and vice president.

Garrett is affiliated with various community organizations, such as the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, where she serves as second vice president on the Board of Directors. She is a children’s Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Winona, as well, and a life member of the Junior Auxiliary of Winona.

When not working and volunteering, Garrett enjoys spending time with family. She is married to John and has two daughters: River (24) and Radleigh (19).
