Grenada native Tyler Winter has recently been promoted to chief of police at the Grenada Campus and brings over 11 years of experience to the position.
Prior to being named chief at Holmes, he served as a campus police officer at the Grenada Campus.
Winters began his career as a reserve police officer for the Grenada Police Department and is still a reserve police officer there. In December of 2012, Winter took an officer job at the Duck Hill Police Department, that later led to him being named Duck Hill Police Chief. He served in that capacity from November of 2017 until January of 2023.
“Former Chief Garrett Hartley asked me if I was interested in coming to work at Holmes. I was hesitant but I decided to give it a chance,” Winter said. “It has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Holmes is a great place to work because everyone is like family.”
Winter is a Grenada High School graduate and attended the Law Enforcement Training Academy at Mississippi Delta Community College. He has completed the Certified Investigators program and the Crisis Intervention Team Academy Training. Winters has been trained in Title IX, diversity, and active response to active shooter.
Winter has four children, Jennah, 14, Lilly Kate, 9, Talynn, 5, and Kaiden, 3. He attends First Baptist Church in Grenada, where he serves on the armed security committee and is a member of the armed security team.
